New Baby

Ya'll are invited to come see my new baby, "Her Own Devices," a gadget blog for the June Cleaver wannabe. You won't find any pink laptops or rhinestone crusted flashdrives there. But if you love to nest and putter around the house, if the thought of a new dust mop makes your heart pound, if you love to hang out in the sewing notions aisle at your local JoAnn's, then you will feel right at home.

Keeping It In The Family

My father, at age 69, has decided to enter the Blog World in time to record Mom and his 50th Anniversary cruise. He's got a gift for writing and photography. They are retired and spend most of their time traveling. So if you love travel blogs, I'm sure he'd love some readers. Leave a comment and let him know you stopped in...

Some of Us Are A Little Slow

I just recently realized that Blogger has a feature whereby I can index my posts by subject. This enables the reader to find all posts related to a certain subject, say...papercrafting, by simply clicking on that subject in the label list. You will find this label list waaaayyyyy down at the bottom of the left sidebar. However, I have more than 250 posts to go back through and relabel. This will take a very long time as I'll probably just do a dozen or so every day. So, recheck often to see what new old post you might discover. I had forgotten some of the good stuff buried in there. Hopefully, this will help us resurrect it. In time.

Security Code Moron

I've decided that I'm the internet's Designated Security Code Moron. You know what I'm talking about, right? That little line of randomly generated numbers and letters embedded in what seems to be the virtual equivalent of TV static? I'm supposed to type them in so that my comment on a blog can pass muster and my insipid, inane comment can get posted alongside those blessed with more wit and charm than I could ever hope to possess. I'm not sure just how it's supposed to protect the blog owner anyway. Like pornographers and computer-saavy hackers can't read the line, type it in and forward whatever deviancy and chaos they're imposing on the world that day in time?

I think the only people it stops are the graffiti-impaired readers like me. I can never make those things out. Is that a V or a Y? I can't determine if the little squiggle at the bottom is a font tail or a bit of graphic scribble. Feeling slightly desperate, I decide it's a Y. WRONG! The Round Two screen comes up. The one with the slightly less scribbled over version for those not bright enough to get it right the first time. Ahhh...this one I can do. But evidently what I thought was a 3 must have been an 8. I flunk this one as well. The Reserved For Idiots screen comes up. Neon letters flash off and on with a voiceover provided by specially trained phonics specialists..."Listen carefully, Stupid, that would be an A, a B, a C and then a 1, a 2 and a 3. Do you need a repeat?"

I beat a hasty and sheepish retreat. By this time, I had forgotten what I wanted to say anyway...

Avoiding a Chore, Sharing a Passion

Today was one of those days where one is inclined to get into trouble. Too many things I should be doing, none of which I feel like doing. And what does one do when compulsion and indulgence clash? Well if one is like me, one finds many pointless things to do to distract the conscience and to stifle it into silence. And thus, this blog is born.

Well...that and my eldest son told me yesterday about reams of college students making reams of money out of their dorm rooms by pimping their budding businesses on internet blogs. Since my custom children's wear business has been going nowhere lately, I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm not sure how my verbal ramblings on an obscure blog buried in internet anonymity is supposed to make me prosperous, but evidently many are making their tuition payments by such, so here I am.

And lest this blog start off on such a totally lowbrow foundation, may I also assure the reader that a yet more worthy motive remains. I adore sewing. Truly, I do. I love to sew more than any other hobby or recreational activity I've tried. More than reading. More than bubble baths. More than baking. More than scrapbooking. More than interior decorating. Even more than eating chocolate. I'd even give up Diet Coke before I'd turn in my sewing machine. And I love to share my passion for sewing with others. Unfortunately, few who share my passion live close enough to enjoy it together. So I hope this blog will be a way for me to share my love of sewing with others.

And now I can no longer avoid the fact that lunch's sandwich makings really need to be put away, laundry needs done and there are bills to be paid. Maybe later I can tell you about the new fabric cuts that are awaiting for laundering amidst the boys' socks and the assorted soggy towels!

Many happy thread trails to you....
