Studio Blues...

If you've wondered why there have been no new crafts here lately, it's because my crafting/sewing room has gotten totally out of control. Or actually, the framed in space in the basement that will someday be my studio has gotten out of control. It has flowed out of its 2"x4" stud boundaries onto the air hockey table, the ping-pong table and yes...even the foosball table. My studio is only about 11x13 feet or so and I don't know how I'm going to get all that stash in there.

Which is why I'm going to let The Husband win an ongoing disagreement.

When we started to finish our unfinished basement, he was adamant that I needed a bigger space than I had planned for my sewing room. He wanted to merge the two side-by-side rooms that would be his study and my studio into one large space to be my sewing/crafting room. I felt guilty taking away his studio and fought the idea. So he went ahead and framed in my smaller space. But now...I think he was right. So I'm going to let him win this particular fight and build me a massive, honking studio. Generous of me, huh? An extra bedroom upstairs will become his studio instead.

If you have pics or blog posts of your creative area, I would love to see them. Please feel free to post links in the comments area.

Dr. Doolittle Lives

I'm surfing the web tonight and absolutely overran by animals. My massive lemon-colored shorthair cat is perched on the back of my computer chair. His weight teetering the chair at an awkward angle that makes my neck ache. Libby, our Russel Jack Terrier, adopted in June from a family needing to leave the state, is sitting ON my feet. Our aged golden retriever sprawls out to my side. He's too large to fit under the desk and at the moment he is...um...odoriferous. Mr. Bonz, the starving, abandoned kitten found barely alive last month on a 4-wheeler trail, is clamoring over my lap and keyboard. He is grateful to now be part of the family after his extended isolation in the back bedroom while we concentrated on restoring him to health. The only animal missing is Coquette, our snotty, vicious, anti-social, but oh-so-gorgeous tuxedo kitty. She's only willing to sit on my lap when she doesn't have to share me with beings less worthy than herself. What can I say? She's a high maintenance diva that we only keep around because she's so pretty. I've never really been an animal person so I'm not sure how I turned into the female equivalent of Dr. Doolittle. They just kind of all showed up one by one. And I was either too weak or too empathetic to say no....

A Peaceful Sunday

Sunday was such an absolutely gorgeous day. Not a cloud in the sky. Warm, but not hot temperatures. Just a perfect day to be out exploring our beautiful Alaska. So we loaded the canoe atop the Explorer and took off. Craig had spotted a remote lake from the air that he wanted to explore. We tried unsuccessfully to find it and after a bit gave up and settled on Carpenter Lake. A peaceful lake, about 250 acres. We spent a delightful two hours exploring the lake, circling the entire perimeter. We spotted kingfisher, a loon and a tundra swan. On the way home, we got directions to the elusive lake from a local and hope to make it back there in a few days to explore that one as well. The picture above isn't the actual lake we explored. I was afraid to bring my camera as my canoe skills are a bit rusty. I was concerned that I'd end up with the camera at the bottom of the lake if I overturned the canoe. I hope to take some pictures next time if I can think of a way to waterproof my camera!

One Man's Meat...

I found these packs of vintage crepe paper today. While I don't do a lot of Halloween or Thanksgiving papercrafting, I know many of you do. So one man's poison is another man's meat or however that saying goes... I'm selling these 5 untouched packs of vintage crepe paper on Etsy for $10 total. They measure 20 inches wide and 10 ft long. This was the sum total of my find so grab it quick if you want it. I don't have anymore.
