Christmas with an Oriental Flair

I just finished this outfit today. I love sewing on this Chinese satin or brocade or whatever it is. :) As long as you serge the edges to prevent unraveling, it's really quite nice to work with. The pin-tucked taffeta I've had around for so long, I can't even remember where I got it. I had only the tiniest remnant. The obi sash came about because the blouse is a little on the short side due to fabric shortage and I wanted something to really secure it when tucked into the skirt. It adds to the oriental flair and I like the baby blue and olive together. Upwards and onwards. The next outfit uses some unusual fabrics together - waffle knit, faux fur and reptile pleather! :) Sounds awful, I know, but it's really cute in a funky kind of way!

Sincerely sewing...

BDB Taboo Challenge

This little design was the result of the BDB Taboo Launch. For this "game" a buyer was paired with an Ebay seller. The buyer chose fabric that they loved (with their child in mind) and sent it to their seller, sending enough fabric for both the sample set and a custom auction. The seller then created an outfit for the buyer's child, but had to avoid 3 "taboo" design elements. My buyer was just a delight to work with and as you can clearly see, her little girl is a total showstopper! :) Love the big brown eyes. This princess chose from several design ideas I presented to her and settled on a long sleeve dress with a peplum effect and felted wool accents. I added in a few extra design elements (the collar and cuff) and the dress below was the end result.

Such great fun! It never ceases to amaze me what a difference there is between a design on a mannequin and the same design on a sweet little girl!

First Comes the Stocking of Little Nell...

I received photos back from the second model for the Designer Duet launch which starts tommorrow. This one is based on the song "Up on the Housetop." I was particularly thinking of the lyrics that go...

"First, comes the stocking of Little Nell,
Oh dear Santa, fill it well..."

This embellishments on this dress were a lot of fun. The jacket was inspired by the gowns in my beloved Jane Austen movies.
